Praying Towards Sunday

Greetings to you in the Name of God.  As we approach Holy Week, let me reflect on our musical life here at The Church of Our Saviour.

Holy Week begins with The Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday on March 25, two services at 8 and 10 a.m. The Our Saviour Choir will sing both services.  We will sing anthems, “Hosanna in the highest” by Malcolm Archer, “Let this mind be in you” by Lee Hoiby and “Adoramus te, Christi” by Giacomo Antonio Perti. We next sing on Good Friday, the Passion setting of John Stainer, “The Crucifixion”.

Note to singers:  You have seen in the Messenger, my invitation to sing with us again this year for this Good Friday service.  We meet the next few weeks for a rehearsal:  Thursday, March 15 and 23, in the Choir Room/Atwill Building, from 7:30 – 8:45, and then on Tuesday evening, March 27.  JOIN US for this poignant setting of the Passion for Choir, Soloists, Organ and Congregation. The Good Friday service is March 30 at 7:30 p.m.

The Music for a Season, 2017-2018 Series is your way of supporting the many musical offerings of this liturgical season.  This coming Sunday afternoon, March 18, there will be a BAROQUE concert with guests, Cris Law, countertenor, Rik Noyce and Meg Griffith, flute and Bree Betourné, soprano, joining me in this Lenten concert at 4:00 p.m. *I know it is a long day…come and be refreshed for the weeks ahead!  A Reception follows in Cleaver Hall, North.

EASTER MUSIC: brass quartet and timpani. I come to again this year for your financial support of this extra part of our celebration on Easter morning, at the 11:00 a.m. Solemn Choral Eucharist.  *NOTE:  The FESTIVE PRELUDE begins at 11:00 a.m. and the processional hymn “Jesus Christ is risen today” begins at 11:15 on this Easter morning service. Please send your contributions and give to me personally, and we will acknowledge your gift in the Music for a Season Donors List, if you so desire.  I thank you for your extra donation to this special day of music.
