What is Your Relationship with God?
In this passage, Jesus asks a very poignant question to his disciples, ‘Who do you think the Son of Man is?’ After several answers, they cannot come to an agreement. Peter bravely steps forward to exclaim, ‘You are the Messiah, the son of the living God.
As we go through life, we have all experienced disagreements among close friends and family. But it’s in these situations that we must stop and evaluate how we respond. Are we submissive? Do we keep quiet and let others opinions become ours? Or are we brave like Peter in this passage? Where we first listen to others opinions, acknowledging their ideas as valid, and then speak our truths and ideas.
How we identify Jesus should be based on personal encounters with God, not based on what others tell you to believe. When we take time to read scripture, ask questions, and continue to grow through sacred text and conversations with others, we begin to understand our own views and ideals about our spirituality. How we identify Jesus should be grounded in lifelong conversations with God where we can adjust what we think we know as necessary. It is a personal connection that we build with God, one that is unique, just like you.
As you continue your spiritual journey, and hit bumps in the road, make time and space to continue your relationship with God and just remember that God continues to speak and act with us and through us, so be open and willing to evolve and change.
