Praying towards Sunday
Philip Smith, Minister of Music & Organist
Honorary Canon of the Cathedral Center of St. Paul, Los Angeles

Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ;  I want to first thank you, Father Gary and the clergy and staff for giving me the time this summer for a Sabbatical.  These were wonderful three months for refreshment, relaxation and “work”.  The work was to begin composing again…that was a real challenge to me.  I have composed works over the years for various positions, like First German UMC in downtown, Alhambra Seventh-day Adventist, and Wilshire UMC, Los Angeles.  But, I have not done any work of this kind here in San Gabriel.  The “request” from the 150th committee and Father Gary was for me to write a hymn and an anthem.  The Hymn will be presented this coming Sunday. “Come, we that love the Lord”, the words of Isaac Watts. The anthem will be presented in mid-February, when the Lectionary has the words taken from the Gospel of Matthew.

Secondly, I want to invite you to become a “Friend of Music”, this is the ninth year of the “Music for a Season” Series and I want to thank you in advance for your generous support of the series, as you have done so these past years.

It is WONDERFUL to be back with you ALL. Blessings as we begin this fall season together.

I cannot leave this without an INVITATION to YOU, to become a member of the Our Saviour Choir or our children to become involved in one of the children’s choirs.

Peace and grace to you,
Phil
